The summit โ free Japanese practice for advanced learners
JLPT N1 is the highest level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test. At this level the vocabulary is largely written language: the formal Sino-Japanese compounds of editorials and academic papers, plus the idioms and nuanced adverbs that native speakers use without thinking.
To pass N1, you need to know around 10,000 vocabulary words and 2,000 kanji. This free quiz covers 140 of the words that separate N1 from N2 across 4 categories: nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs/expressions. None of them repeat the words in our N5, N4, N3 or N2 quizzes.
This is a free, no-signup vocabulary trainer for the JLPT N1 exam โ the step up from our JLPT N5 quiz and JLPT N2 quiz. Each question shows you a Japanese word and its rลmaji reading. Choose the correct English meaning from 4 options. After each answer, an explanation shows the reading, meaning, and notes on nuance and easily-confused partners.
